Perryville Battlefield Park Day Fence Installation
Close to 50 volunteers worked at Perryville Battlefield Saturday, installing around 1,300 feet of fence as part of the Civil War Trustís nationwide Park Day clean-up and restoration effort. Perryville Battlefield was one of 10 parks in Kentucky that benefited, and one of 125 historic sites in 29 states across the nation. Chad Greene, president of the Friends of Perryville Battlefield group, said volunteers worked to put up about 300 feet of snake rail fencing and 1,000 feet of post and rider fencing. The Friends group spent about $10,000 on the fence materials. A cornfield will be grown inside the new fence, in the same location where a cornfield grew during the Battle of Perryville in the Civil War, Greene said.
